The 2025/26 Premier League fixtures have officially dropped—and they promise a season packed with rivalries, new narratives, and unforgettable football matches. As fans prepare for the return of top-flight football, clubs across the league are gearing up to battle for glory.

Opening Weekend: Starting With A Bang

The campaign kicks off on Friday, August 15, with Premier League holders Liverpool welcoming Bournemouth to Anfield. All eyes will be on Arne Slot, after Liverpool’s impressive title run last year, the big question is: can they maintain that form?

On Sunday, August 17, Manchester United host Arsenal. United will be looking to improve on last year's league campaign, which was record breaking for all the wrong reasons. It will be important for Arsenal to start off the season strong if they are to finally get over the finish line and win their first Premier League title since 2003.

Return of the Promoted Clubs

Three clubs make their return to the Premier League this season:

  • Leeds United return after a one-year absence and start their campaign away at Everton.
  • Burnley, revitalised under Scott Parker, take on Tottenham.
  • Sunderland make their long-awaited top-flight comeback after 8 years, and face West Ham away in their first fixture.

The real buzz surrounds the Tyne-Wear derby, which returns for the first time in the Premier League since 2016. These fiercely competitive fixtures between Sunderland and Newcastle will take place on December 13 (Stadium of Light) and March 21 (St James’ Park)—a must-watch for any true football fan.

Key Fixtures to Watch This Season

Rivalry and drama define the Premier League, and this season is packed with must-see fixtures:

  • Manchester Derby (United vs City): September 13 & January 17
  • North London Derby (Arsenal vs Tottenham): November 22 & February 21
  • Merseyside Derby (Liverpool vs Everton): September 20 & April 18
  • Tyne-Wear Derby (Newcastle vs Sunderland): December 13 & March 21

Festive Football and the Final Sprint

This year’s festive fixture list has been thoughtfully scheduled, avoiding Christmas Eve matches and spreading out games to reduce player burnout. Expect dramatic shifts in form around the new year as squads rotate and depth is tested. Tottenham face Liverpool at home, while Chelsea travel to Newcastle.

Why Pre-season Is So Important

Training is at the heart of any successful football team. As clubs gear up for the season, rigorous pre-season training sessions will start to begin. Premier League managers will focus on building fitness levels, sharpening tactical skills, and fostering team cohesion. Training sessions will be tailored to address the specific needs of the team, ensuring players are in peak condition when the season kicks off.

Thomas Frank will look to stamp his style on a Spurs team, who although performed poorly in last year's league campaign should be full of confidence after their Europa League success. Meanwhile man city have already made significant additions, which along with the backroom staff changes should help to revitalise their squad for the upcoming campaign. Ruben Amorim will be taking this pre-season very seriously as he looks to repay the United board’s faith in him after a lackluster season.
